When I found out I was pregnant with our first child I was shocked and overjoyed. Soon, though, those initial emotions parted and fear tried to creep in. Because this was my first pregnancy I felt I had a lot to learn. But that wasn’t the only reason I struggled. A few months earlier, my nephew was stillborn after seemingly thriving in the womb. Throw a pandemic into the mix and my anxiety threatened to take over.

After picking a practice and a hospital I felt comfortable with, I realized I still craved more support. I would have loved to have my mom at the hospital with me for the birth, but Covid stole that option. Who could take her place? My husband is amazingly supportive but I didn’t know how I would want him to help. I didn’t know how to ask him for what I would need when I didn’t even know what I would need. I soon realized we needed to invest in a doula.

I found Renée by asking moms who shared the same values as me for recommendations. After our first phone conversation, I knew she was the missing piece.

Finding her was a blessing beyond what My husband and I expected. She was, and is, the one piece in this journey that is irreplaceable. The expertise, compassion, and understanding she brings to each interaction, to every single question or concern we have, inspire us to embrace this journey with confidence and serenity.

Because of our time with her, we have been equipped with an abundance of tools, to make our pregnancy, birth, and beyond, joyful experiences. She’s shared resources that prepared us physically, emotionally, and spiritually and brought us the most thoughtful and useful gifts. Most importantly, Renée helped me overcome my fears of the unknown, of pain, of being ill-prepared, by teaching me to open my heart and mind to the innate strength and abilities within myself.

A few years ago I started my journey on a non toxic life. I learned more about a natural, unmedicated birth and knew this is what I wanted the day I became pregnant. I also decided I want to hire a birth doula to help me through the process. I told my husband my decision and he was immediately on board. We started researching doulas in our area as well as educating ourselves on exactly what they do. Renée came recommended to us and we are glad she did! We had our first initial meeting virtually and we both felt like we had known her forever. She even paid attention to our cat! Renée made it known to us how each person in your family is important during this time. We decided right away to choose her as our birth doula.

Renée was not only focused on me during my pregnancy but also considered the needs of my husband and how he would be supported during this time. He felt so confident in everything she taught him. Renée was very responsive to his questions and emails. She provided him with the tools to become a well informed dad and supportive birth coach.

Renée is more than just our doula. She became our friend. Without her we would not have had the pregnancy and labor experience we wanted. All my life I had feared labor and delivery and the pain that came along with it. I thought “give me that epidural as soon as possible!” With the help of Renée and the tools she gave me, my view completely changed. I was able to connect to my body and my baby more during my pregnancy and I looked forward to experiencing what labor and delivery was all about. My body was made for this! Renée helped me find my strength and confidence. Her knowledge and commitment to our family provided us everything we needed during and after pregnancy. I found my tribe or women, a postpartum therapist, childbirth classes, breastfeeding support, literature, and the list goes on. I never felt uncomfortable going to Renée for any advice or question I might have had, and even sometimes just to cry and vent out whatever feelings I was having at the moment. I could not be more happy with the choice I made to hire Renée. I know I can count on her for the next baby!

Hiring Renée was one of the best decisions we made during our pregnancy! This was our second baby and our chance to take a more natural path after many interventions with the birth of our daughter. Renée gave us the tools and evidence based information to help us stay the course and prepare for our son’s birth.

Being pregnant during a pandemic was never what we had imagined, but Renée was the steady hand helping us navigate through the process. When I had doubts about the medical team I had chosen well into my third trimester, Renée helped empower me to trust my gut and switch to a new care provider. The new birth team was exactly what I had always envisioned and was completely supportive of the natural approach that we wanted to take.

Leading up to his birth, Renée taught us breathing techniques and coping mechanisms to help work through contractions, which were incredibly useful. When I went into labor and things didn’t exactly go according to plan, Renée was the calm presence that supported us both during a highly stressful situation. She was exactly what we needed to remind us of our intentions and keep us focused as we welcomed our son. With her help we were able to have the natural delivery that we had wanted. She also helped us establish breastfeeding shortly after he was born, and was available to answer questions and offer tips in the coming days. She was always just a phone call or text away, and always eager and willing to help.

When we look back on our son’s birth, there was not much we could control, but the one thing we could do was assemble a team that shared the same vision as we did. Renée was an invaluable part of that birth team and we will always be grateful for support!

My husband and I just had our first baby. From our very first meeting with Renée we felt so comfortable and would recommend her to anyone looking to include a doula in their birth plan. She is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I was experiencing anxiety and uncertainty regarding the birthing process and Renée was essential in helping me relieve my anxiety and providing me with the knowledge I needed to feel confident and prepared. She provided us with guidance, information and support to help us achieve a labor and birth experience that was free from fear. I was determined to have an all natural birth and Renée was so supportive and provided us with relaxation techniques to help relieve my pain. She also provided support and guidance to my husband by teaching him ways to support me and to be a grounding force during my labor. I was so impressed with how calm and proactive he was during my labor due to the strategies Renée taught him. She helped us advocate for ourselves when it came to making important decisions. Renée also set us up for breastfeeding success by guiding me through my first breastfeeding session after birth and visiting our home a few days later to address any concerns we had. We are so thankful for all of the support and knowledge Renée provided us and would recommend her without reservation!

Janine and Sal with their newborn baby girl, clients of Tribe of Mine.

Sal and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared our birth experience with Renee.

Our birth plan changed quickly when realizing we were not able to have the natural birth experience because our daughter was breech. Renee rose above and beyond to the occasion and still gave us amazing support.

I knew I wanted to breastfeed and if it wasn’t for Renee’s support I wouldn’t have proceeded. Renee made our birthing experience positive and wonderful.

The knowledge and information Renee gives is invaluable. She guided not only me but my husband on what he could do to help me throughout my pregnancy and after. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without her.

She went out of her way to do special things for us. I can go on and on. Renee you are amazing! Moms need you! Keep doing what you do. We will always recommend you to everyone we know.
